West Ham United have suffered their first derby defeat in the new Premier League campaign after they were beaten at home by newly promoted outfit Brentford. The Bees were the better side over the course of the game and they were rewarded with a last gasp winner from substitute Yoane Wissa. The late goal from French striker Wissa gave the Bees a well deserved 2-1 win to condemn West Ham United to a fourth league defeat in seven home games at the London Stadium.

The Hammers have played just one derby game in the new Premier League season until the Brentford game at the weekend and that was against the Crystal Palace team under new manager and Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira. The Premier League encounter between hosts West Ham United and Crystal Palace ended in a 2-2.

The Brentfordgame was the second London Derby clash in the Premier League for West Ham United as established earlier and it was the Bees who took the lead on 20 minutes through Bryan Mbeumo. The goal was given by VAR as Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski failed in his attempt to keep his close range finish out of the back of the net. Brentford were able to take a slender lead into the interval thanks to the goal from Mbeumo.

West Ham United trailed for an hour before Jarrod Bowen equalisedten minutes from time paving the way for Wissa to emerge as the hero for the away team.

Brentford have been impressive in the Premier League this season having gained promotion by winning the Championship playoffs last season. They have already beaten Arsenal (home) and drawn with Liverpool (home).

The win over the Hammers took the Bees’ point tally to 12 points and they are now seventh on the league table, while their London rivals drop to ninth with 11 points.
