West Ham United chairman David Gold has revealed that goalkeeper Robert Green will be leaving the club at the end of the season. This news comes as a major blow for West Ham fans given that Robert Green is a recognised England international.

He could have been worth as much as £ 8 million if he had been sold by the club. However, he leaves the club on a free transfer having allowed his contract come to an end this season. It is expected that West Ham will be replacing Robert Green with the services of Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen. The Bolton goalkeeper is also available on a free transfer.

It is thought that Robert Green would be interested in a move abroad in order to get experience of playing in Europe. Spanish club Malaga are showing a lot of interest in securing his signature, as are Newcastle United. They are also ready to pay a reported £ 45,000 per week in wages for the England international. David Gold has admitted that it was a tough decision to let Robert Green leave the club on a free transfer, but the club should now move on and focus on their interests. The 32-year-old goalkeeper is currently on international duty with England at the Euro 2012.

“Robert Green is a free agent he has chosen to move on. Matthew Upson did the same thing. Nobody wants Rob to leave but nothing is for ever, he must do what is best for him and we must do what is best for us,” said David Gold on his Twitter account.

Stephen Henderson is currently the only recognised goalkeeper at Upton Park having converted his loan deal into a permanent one this season. Stephen Henderson joined the club last season from Portsmouth on a loan deal. He is expected to compete with Jaaskelainen next season for a first-team spot.
